In A Man's World is a story follows the journeys of two young ladies, Jacinta Orji and Rita Okoh, who defy stereotypes by pursuing their passion for soccer in a world dominated by males. Through their dedication to the sport, they break barriers and demonstrate the resilience of the average Nigerian female in chasing their dreams.
Jacinta Orji, 16, hails from Imo state and resides in F.C.T Abuja, Nigeria. Her love for soccer dates back to her primary school days. Currently playing for WACO academy, she trains and competes alongside male players. Despite the challenges from her humble background and typical Nigerian societal views about soccer being a sport for men, Jacinta remains determined to follow her passion. Alongside her education, she helps her mother sell provisions at their shop, demonstrating her tenacity in balancing responsibilities while excelling in her chosen field.
Rita Okoh, 20, shares a similar story of resilience. Her passion for soccer began at a young age, and she aspired to become a footballer, despite societal expectations. Tragically, her father passed away, but Rita remains steadfast on her path to making it big in the world of soccer. She has not only pursued a diploma in "accounting" but also obtained a "grade two" referee certificate from the "Nigeria Referee Association." Despite challenges in securing a job in a tough economy, Rita finds solace and purpose by staying true to her love for soccer.
The football field becomes their "safe place," where Jacinta and Rita find joy and authenticity, defying societal norms and proving their worth as talented female players. Their stories showcase how perseverance, determination, and the love for the game enable them to break through gender barriers and chase their dreams, even in a male-dominated world of sports.
